The school understands that unstructured playtimes can often be the most challenging for pupils. We therefore use this time as structured learning time which is planned and assessed as part of the child’s learning journey. Play is highly supervised by staff and pupils are encouraged to join a range of activities. Pupils are encouraged to make choices and develop friendships and support each other across the school.
Following feedback from parents the school has decided to teach road safety within the curriculum more frequently. To help us do this we are having our playground marked out as a road. Pupils will be taught to use their bicycles safely within the road space and how to be safe as pedestrians. This will be presented in a fun way to teach pupils the rules of the road through play.
When this is not in use as a road the markings can be used to develop play and sport activities.
